SUNSHINE GIRLS AND JUNIOR ORDER IN VIRGINIA |
|
Virginia is indeed blessed to be one of the few states to have both active units of both the Junior order and Sunshine Girls These groups are not only good sources of future members of the Knights and Sisters. They also are attempt to instill high moral values in our young people involved, and they have provided valuable assistance at many projects sponsored by Temples and Lodges in their area. Of course all of this couldn’t be happening without a great deal of hard work and tenacity on the part of their adult Pythian Sponsors. Charity Lodge #10 in Norfolk is the proud sponsor of Junior Order Chapter #24. The group, called the Crows, is guided by Brother Ken Sypult. During the past year the boys have actively worked on several charity projects. They raffled for a radio for C. F. and a level for U. C. P. They also sold candy to raise money for C. F. and Pythian Care. The boys helped deliver and provide canned goods for Christmas baskets. The young men have assisted in many Lodge projects. They carried the flags at the Virginia Grand Convention and the gala open joint installation ceremony of Charity Lodge #10 and Norfolk Temple #3. The boys also served the food at several Pythian functions. They assisted at the motorcycle rally charity event and helped raise money for the Pythian brother with the brain cancer. Virginia has two Sunshine Girl Councils: Norfolk Millennium Council #1 (under the direction of Advisors Barbara Bozeman ) and Portsmouth Sunshine Council #2 (advised by Katie Mills and Sue Anne Howell). These girls have willingly helped out in various Temple projects. They preformed beautifully in the Grand Temple installation ceremonies. They helped serve food at several functions and have donated to several charities. Like the Junior Order, the Sunshine Girls have been a definite asset to the Temples which have sponsored them. |
