PGC Bill Rotenberry of Patrick Henry Lodge #82 became Sir Bill Rotenberry at the Grand Banquet. In an impressive ceremony, he was presented with the Golden Spur Award.  This is the highest award a Pythian Knight can achieve.  Billy is pictured kneeling during the ceremony.

THE IRVIN FREEDMAN AWARD for 2011 was presented to Billy Rotenberry of Patrick Henry Lodge   # 82 This award is given yearly to the Knight best demonstrating the Pythian spirit of Charity. PGC Billy regularly drives a church van.  He also volunteers to drive a van for the V. A.  Brother Rotenberry also puts his musical talents to good use.  Several times a week he goes to nursing homes and plays music for the residents.  All this volunteering certainly makes him and excellent candidate for this award

                 Nancy Mead is a long time member of Virginia Temple #1.  She has served as MEC of the Temple for the past two years and has served in this position twice before.  Nancy works hard on all of her Temple’ projects and fundraisers  She puts on programs for the Temple and composes the Temple newsletter. Almost every Sunday , she works at Lodge #22’s Bingo game and brings in a cake to be sold in the Bingo kitchen.  (Money raised at Bingo allows the lodge to make over $100,000.00 in charitable contributions each year.)

                 Nancy has been very active in the Grand Temple level as well,  She was Grand Chief in 2002-2003 and served as Supreme Rep in 2006.  She was secretary of the Convention Committee in 2010.  She has served as Grand Press Correspondent  for many years.  In this capacity, she publishes our state newsletter “The Grand Gazette”.  She also has developed and periodically updates the Virginia Pythian Grand Lodge/Temple  website.  .  Nancy  has served on the Grand Temple Law committee for the past several years.

                 Sister Mead has attended the last seven Supreme Conventions.  She travelled widely with her husband during his years as a Supreme Officer.  She has attended Grand Conventions and programs in about half of the Grand Jurisdictions.  

Text Box: THE SIR HARRY GOSPER AWARD for 2011 was presented to Sir Tommy Davidson of Beach Lodge #169.  This award is presented annually to the Knight who best exemplifies the high standards of faithful and honorable service, dedication to ideals, and outstanding commitment to the advancement of the Order  Tommy is always willing to pitch in and help out.  Whenever there is cooking that needs to be done around the Lodge, Tommy is usually the man doing it.

The PYTHIAN OF THE YEAR AWARD for 2011 was presented in loving memory of Henry Lowe.  It was presented this year to Sir Earl Harrell, SFT of Beach Lodge #169  This award is given to the Brother demonstrating outstanding Pythian  service during the year.  Earl is currently serving as Supreme Foundation Trustee.  He served on several Grand Lodge committees, and  helped out regularly at the lodge in whatever capacity he was needed.
